Question

In process of upgrading the wheels on the P1 to 18"

What size tyres should I be shoeing it with, 225/35ZR18 or 225/40XR18 ???

I think the 35/40 represents the % of the diameter that is rubber. This means a diameter of 24.3" or 25.2" respectively against the standard 24.65". Any thoughts?

Interestingly the following

http://www.users.totalise.co.uk/~scoobydoo/imprezaweb/reviews/Pshooter/

suggests that the std car was supposed to have the 35's to help solve its 'lower lip chewing.' Surely this would not have been helped by a slightly smaller diameter?

Cheers

I think it's 215/35zr18 that you should be using.

Apparently 225s rub if you lower it.

I have p1 18" alloys on my my99 uk impreza with eagle f1 225/35/zr18 tyres. Its not been lowered at all and the rear drivers side tyre tends to rub against the outer arch when I fill the petrol tank up. I think if I fit a 215/35/zr18 tyre it will clear the arch.

Question

Has anyone had any problems fitting tyres other than P-Zeros on 18" wheels? Bless them, the Scottish dealers are coming up with all sorts of apparently uninformed nonsense about only the P-Zeros fitting!

the goodyear Eagle f1s have a squarer shoulder than most tyres - on a previous car I had them scrape the arch, but P6000s didn't (not that that particular tyre is an option here).

Could roll the arches - fairly painless as long as your arches aren't fillered! Otherwise prepare for a total respray

I tried another option, which was adjust the rear tracking to the other end of the manufacturers spec to stop scrape - 2000 miles later I had a double blow-out!!!

I have 215/35/18s and they just catch the rear arches.

However I am going to go for 225s next time as i think the 215s are too narrow, and this gives a very round shoulder on the tyre.

I would rather get the arches rolled and fit the wider tyres than have that round shoulder, cos it sits back from the outer rim too much and exposes the rim. (oo-er misus)

I have a UK MY99.

The scrubbed shoulders are especially prominent on the front left, which takes a hammering on the mostly right handed knockhill circuit....
