Depends what's on it now. If it's a UK car, pre '99, it'll have two pot calipers on the front, and they are sh*te.
You can tell by looking at the caliper, if it doesn't say "SUBARU" across it, you have two pots.
At this point, it then depends on what do you want to spend? With two pots, I'd not bother with uprated discs and pads, as better results can be had by changing to the four pot setup off the 99 onwards cars. These can be had off here, off e-Bay, from breakers etc, but do get the discs that go with the calipers. This setup with standard pads will be much better. Fit braided hoses at the same time as you change the calipers
From there, you can spend a lot of money. Mine currently sports Godspeed brembos with 330 mm discs and kevlar pads at the front, and STi Brembos at the rear with 316 mm discs, and braided hoses all round.

No need to do the back as well.
How big are your wheels as the four pots or other larger upgrades may need bigger or different design wheels.
My 16" wheels rubbed on my 4 pots so i had to get some late model impreza ones.

AFAIK, the brakes off cars up to '00, ie: classics, area a direct fit. I'm pretty sure that ANY fronts with "SUBARU" across them will fit.
You can't put Brembos on without spacers, brackets etc.

ive just swapped my 2 pots for 4 pots off a 2000 p1 and i have to say its made a massive difference
with the 2 pot setup i had ebc grooved discs and red stuff pads and they were crap to say the least and i got sick of hitting the brake pedal and just hoping but now with the 4 pots i can drive the car how its supposed to be driven
