OK, I need to replace the front discs on my classic STI as the current ones are pitted. Now do i replace them with a standard vented disc i.e from my local autofactors or is it worth spending the money on grooved discs with a branded pad.
If the difference is very subtle i'll just replace the discs but if the difference is considerable i might as well get a disc/pad combination.
When i say budget i mean £100 for pads and discs.
Your honestly is really apprecaited here guys as money is a bit tight

generally speaking on a road car (and most other uses) the pad is the most important factor.........as long as you use a reasonable quality disc then it doesn't matter on style

speand the difference on getting a decent set of pads

Depends on your driving style and what you expect in terms of stopping performance. For the past year, I've run OE-spec discs and Textar pads (both bought from Alyn) and they've been fine for road use.

Even with the odd thrash they've stood up well, but the pads performance drop off quite quickly when really pushing it. My brother has the same pads in his golf and he's had no complaints either.

For my daily commute in/out of Edinburgh they've been spot on.

I'm getting my 4-pot calipers refurbished due to sticky pistons (that problem is the biggest let down on the classic Impreza) and will be fitting some OE stuff again.

I got a set of front discs and pads for £80 from these guys - Brake Parts for Cars I'm not expecting great lap times, but they'll be fine for my daily grind along the motorway.
