Default Advise on Brakes please

Hi,
I'm looking into upgrading my brakes and was wondering which to go for.

I'm looking at AP 6pots but I have no ABS and I'm affraid of it locking up if they are that sharp. My standard brakes are'nt up to the job though.

Has anyone had this trouble

If you have a classic, you can get a set of 2nd hand STI 4 pots on the fronts. They're good enough for fast road use unless you're running lots of power.

For an after market kit it depends what you want to spend. AP's, Alcon, etc all do kits, I have a set of Stoptechs from Zen and they have stood up to lots of track abuse so far

One of the things you get with a good set of brakes is really good progressive feel. I have AP 6 pots and they are a delight whether stopping gently or hard. I do have ABS but it rarely activates and only when I'm clumsy, I'd have no concern using these without ABS.

Ap 6 pots are the way forward i run them with abs but it very rarely kicks in because you get so much feel for what the front tyre's are upto.

Just a couple of things.

The brakes will only lock up when you apply enough pressure to make them do so. Even the standard brakes are capable of this. The main thing with uprated brakes is that they will give the same level of performance consistantly without fading. This is why the design and size of disc used is better and bigger.

Why do people think that the power level dictates the braking required? The power level of a car makes no difference to braking performance, why would it? Surely its all down to speed. Now, you may be going faster when in a more powerful car, but again it is speed not power that determines how much braking is required.

I have no experience of K sport 8 pots but I know they use the same pad shape as the AP 5570 caliper so that you can get the full range of Pagid compounds available from Alyn. I rate this as a major plus point as some aftermarket kits are hampered by poor pad choice availability.
