I have recently bought a set but not fitted yet. I now understand there are early ones and late ones an I would need the early type to bolt straight on to my classic. Is this the case and if so how do I tell if they are correct?

I think it is to do with the PCD. I think 2004/2005 the STi's got bigger hubs and went from 5X100 to 5x114. I think you need some kind of adaptor bracket to fit to a classic anyway.

05> STi has the larger PCD, to fit they would need either discs re-drilled or the earlier style

fronts go straight on a classic, but the rears generally need an adptor kit

A good upgrade for the classic would be to fit those 2 piece discs from Performance Friction as well.
That combo with the Brembo calipers on your car would be awesome!

I'm going to try standard discs with yellow stuff pads first which should be a pretty powerful setup on a classic. If not PF will be on order need new bottom end first otherwise I'll have nothing to stop!

I've had 06 Brembo's fitted to my classic all you need to do is have the PCD re drilled, I paid £50 for that job.

Have a look at MY thread especially the later pages for the finished article both front and rear.
I had brackets and enlarged shoes for the rears from Andy at Ace Motorsport... IIRC the classic handbrake shoe is 160mm and new age is 180mm.

I had the yellow stuff truly awefull pad that faded rediculiously and wrecked a set of ap discs !!!

As above, go with the .11 Z rated by PF from the start, dont bother with the yellowstuff.

If you're thinking of PF discs as well as their pads and like a lot of stop try the PF 01 pads rather than the Z rated ones. The Z pads are similar in behavior to DS2500/Pagid421 whereas the 01 pads stop harder than Pagid Blues. Talk to Alyn at ASPerformance for the bits 0191 4103770.

Unfortunately I already have the pads They were recommended by a friend who does alot of track work, they are the new R compund which is supposedly miles better than the original. I hope so although it looks like I may be going the PF route sooner rather than later

This is true, however the z rated would still be a massive improvment over the yellowstuff original or new "r" version.

my pads were the r type.absolute pants,scored the new discs badly too.
