YELLOWSTUFF BRAKE PADS
Hi all,
Just bought some, arrived today, gonna fit em tomorrow (virgin brake fitter here)?
Quick question, they have a thin black metal sort of template attached to the back, the instructions don't mention removing this so I presume I leave it on???

yeah leave it on and put some copper grease on them too.
can i ask why yellow stuff? are they not the ceramic ones? thought it was green/red then yellow......i know folks who had problems getting enuff heat into the redstuff pads, i would imagine the yellow are worse unless u have a track car

yup leave it on. i had the redstuff ceramics before i moved to the yellowstuff. reds took a lot of heating to get the best out of them and they chewed discs like there was no tomorrow. the yellows though
. worked brilliant from cold compared to the reds and didn't seem to fade either. for the money they can't be beaten imo.

I heard the redstuff don't last very long and that the yellowstuff last longer, stops better and does grip well from cold.
Most things I heard about yellostuff R is positive though thats why I went for them. Oh and supposedly less dust then "normal" pads. I'll still clean the wheels every week though and take them off once a month for a proper polish

red stuff doesnt last only needed first push of brake pedal to warm up for me though. will be trying yellow next i think.
clip on new pads will be wear indicator i think. does it protrude a bit past the backing?

Just looked at the front set that's already on the Scoob (OEM stuff I guess) and they do have the hook thing, the new yellowstuff pads don't!?
Wont this start to scratch the disk when the wear gets low? Don't sound like a good idea to me?

Exactly that.When they scrape the disc the noise alerts you to the fact there worn out. Simple but effective warning system.

Any ideas why's there none on the front set then?
think the metal will be so soft in wouldnt harm discs.
i would have thought there would have been on front there is on two/four pots oem. have u had car long? im thinking pads might have been low and somebody might have snipped them off.
clip goes to hidden side of disc and might be fitted on bottom of pads on the fronts like the four pot ones.

Had yellows in on stock STI brembos and loved em. Im now running DS2500 on AP356mm 6 pots.
The new brakes are awesome but the DS2500 are utter crap, i can get these to fade no problem on the road, wheras i never got fade from the Yellows on the road. even on track they were very good indeed.

I have frayz old setup, they're great pads for performance, but they do tend to bite hard once warmed up
I'm not gettin any brakedust at all!, just a very very light dusting after 2 weeks, superb.

I just tried to fit em and I've been sent the wrong set for the rears.
Two separate websites specify DP4826R for the rears and they wrong.
According to the EBC website they should be DP41538R
Anyone else had this problem????

Im no mechanic by a long way ,but im gonna try and change my pads is it easy ,its on a bugeye, anyway i take it my pads r on their way out as when braking hard from speed there is a nasty whaling noise from one of the wheels ,.how can i tell if he disks r still ok?and can i tell if the pads r worn by lookin at them through the wheels.

RonnieB - This appear to be an issue with the changes Subaru made through the years not being reflected accurately enough in the brake pad manufacturers info. I have an MY02 WRX (bugeye) and my rear pads are most definately the DPn826, as I had to 'discuss' this with EBC Brakes Direct a few times to get the correct pad.
On the topic of 'Yellowstuff' pads - I had all sorts of problems with these, having attempted to 'upgrade' from the Redstuff ceramic. In the first track session with the yellows I had smoke pouring from the pads front and rear - and no braking at all (pedal all the way to the firewall

The 'recovered' but were never confidence inspiring at all - and certainly not as effective as the Red Stuff. For the next trackday I returned to the old (almost worn out) Red Stuff pads and braking was much improved.
Since then I have tried the 'mega pads' from Pagid - using RS4.2 (blue) front and RS4.4 (orange) rears. These were little better than the Yellowstuff pads and managed to warp the front disks, smoke their brains out and fundamentally just not stop the car
To be honest, I wish I had never changed from the Red Stuffs
IF you use the car on the road, the Red Stuff should be sufficient - if you do trackdays the whole system needs upgrading to AP racing quality.

wrx b - changing the pads is easy, just watch out for overflowing the brake master cylinder when you push the pistons back into the caliper body. I use this tool from Machine Mart which makes life very easy Clarke - CHT268 Disc Brake Piston Spreader - Automotive Hand Tools - Machine Mart

Great advice above and conveniently timed as I'm just contemplating Yellow Stuff pads myself.
One (daft) question, will these be OK with standard 04 WRX discs as well or do I have to upgrade the discs at the same time. Loads of wear left on them so not keen on ditching it I don't have to.
