Default rear discs

I've got a 94 wrx wagon with 2 pots fitted to the rear. (I've never done this before) So I went to change the rear discs yesterday to g88 tarox's. Only to notice, after taking the caliper off, theres huge bolt in the middle of the disc, bolting it down? But my new discs have a similar hole, but i dont see how the new disc will bolt in as its a different design in the middle. The bolt would just sit in the middle of the disc, not holding it. Or have i got the wrong discs.

Erm.... no IMO.

Not that I'm an expert: The rear disks are also drums for the handbrake. You have to wind off the clearance on the handbrake shoes in order to take the disks off.

There's destructions somewhere.....

Hasten to addd ^^^ not my piccie.

That little lot is for setting the thing up but you get the general idea.... poke a thin flat bladed screwdriver through the backplate and wind off the clearance, then the disk falls off.

The 'huge' nut in the middle is for fixing the hub flange to the drive shaft , dont disturb that , if the handbrake shoes are loose , the discs will pull off , if they are tight , you have to loosen the handbrake shoes inside the middle of the disc , through the rubber bung in the backplate , its easy to do just fiddley , see pic above

2 pot rears on a 94 WRX?

Sounds like retro fit if you are sure they aren't single pot sliders?

2 pots

single pots

Ok, as stated above the hand brake mechanism is probably holding it in place. It could also be stuck on the spigot/hub and need a tap with a hammer (rubber).

Make sure the hand brake is released and not under any tension.

try turning the discs left to right , if it moves its not stuck on the handbrake so you can either tap it off from behind , or put 2 bolts onto the threaded holed in the front of the discs , as you thread bolts in , they push against the hub and will push the disc off.

If the discs will not turn , then the handbrake shoes are holding it on , dont force it off or you will brake the clips holding the shoes in place , you will need to loosen them off to remove the discs

Jacking bolts are M8. You need to do it this way as the centre of the brake disc/drum is a tight fit on the hub so that it is centered in use, beating it with a hammer doesn't work (got the T shirt).

Yep, two M8 bolts threaded into the two holes on the front of the centre part of the disc. Tighten by hand, then a couple of turns to each, in turn until the disc comes off.

Do the single and 2pots use the same disc? If so are the 2pots a direct replacement fit for the singles?

no single pots are 266mm generally and the 2pots use a 290mm (either with 170mm h/brake for new-age WRX or 190mm h/brake for type-R, etc)

fairly straightforward conversion though if wanted.............
