The final word on tyres?
Hi all,
I recently purchased some second hand pirelli p zero rossos 225/40/18
and would like the final word on rubbing etc for a 2002 bugeye WRX?
I plan to buy some 18's with either 7.5J or 8J, BUT!! have searched and read quite a few posts that the 40 + 225 will rub with full lock or knock with bumps! ... However other posts say this isnt the case..
Firstly what is the final word on this? and secondly if i lower on eibach springs eventually could this effect or worse'n the situation?
Any info apprciated from a confused modder.

On any (4 or 5 door) 01MYon WRX you'll have no problems with a 225/40 on a 7.5" rim at ET53. If you have a 5 door there's less space at the back so an 8" wheel is tricky if not impossible, particularly on a low car.
If you have a 4 door, you'll have no issue with a wheel that's 8" wide and an offset of ET46-51 no matther how low you go so long as you are using the std dampers. If it's too low though it'll be running on the bumpstops and will handle appallingly but the tyres won't catch.........

These size of tyres are recommended by Subaru when fitting a PPP to any newage car.
Loads of people on here are running 225/40/18 on lowered newage cars without any rubbing issues
(mine are 8x18's)

The problem's more with a 5dr than a 4dr. As Mike said, you need ET53 offset wheels for the 5dr to allow for, I guess, the narrower track and lack of flared arches. The problem is finding wheels with an ET53 offset! Prodrive's P-WRC wheel comes with that offset, and Subaru offer a slightly tacky looking gold 18" with that offset, but otherwise I haven't found any. Part of the problem is that not many sites know anything about offsets, and particularly the distinctive requirements for the 5dr

Phew, i guess its one less thing for me to stress about. The reason for the post (and i did use SEARCH first) is that after reading various posts there seemed to be a differ of opinions on what does and doesn't work.
I'd rather air on the side of caution and ask rather than spend £'s and get it horribly wrong.
