Question Impreza caliper position..?

Never noticed before that Impreza's have the front calipers trailing, ie behind the centre line of the wheel. Most other cars seem to have them infront IYSWIM..?

Is there any advantage to either position..? Would have thought that 'infront' would allow better cooling of the caliper body and pads.

Although I think I saw a newish 911 with the same thing the other day and they're renown for their braking ability..!

Just curious..

I think you'll find that they are behind the disc due to the steering arms being in front of.....!! and liekwsie, all the other cars have them on the opposite side to the steering arms....

there was an in-depth discussion on :: wheels-inmotion.co.uk :: camber / kingpin / toe / tracking / geometry / theory / alignment about this, and there was apparantly no advantage or disadvantage to where the caliper was located, in fact, one model of volvo has one front caliper behind the disc, and the other side's is in front with obviously no adverse braking problems.

the calipers are fitted either leading or trailing , ( front and back ) if they are fitted top or bottom then with the flex in the strut it can cause pad knock off and you lose the pedal , so you will always see the calipers fitted front or back
