Wink

On a classic, the accepted combination is 215/40 17" to get the same rolling diameter and avoid scrubbing.

My classic is lowered, don't know how much but there is very slight scrubbing when i push her but the tyre has to catch the arch just right

Maybe because the tyres i wanted i couldn't get in a 205 fitment

Anyway it only really scrubs when the car is loaded up and im in a hurry on a bumpy road, otherwise its perfectly fine besides i love the stance so im not touching it

A 45 profile would be pushing it imo, prolly why they're up for sale

Fair do`s !

the wheels the 45 tyres are on are 6.5j no 7 so maybe that will compensate for no scrubbing ?

I posted on your thread in General

But basically I have ran them on Compomotive MO's and they are fine, the only time I got scrubbing was if the car was fully laden (me missus 3 kids and boot full of stuff) and only on roads with reasonable sized dips

The reason people buy 215/45/17's is that they are more common and generally a bit cheaper

IIRC you can run 205/45/17's or 215/40/17's too

Also my suspension is Eibach's

215/40 17 Toyo T1R x 4 = £294.00 from BMTR 0121 331 1122.

Delighted with the results:

These are the numbers you want below, from Tire size calculator

I think all these sizes will fit a Classic no probs, provided the off-set is correct, eg 52-53mm. This is vital. The danger is usually rubbing on the outside of the wheel arch, not the top, and we know that 215mm fits.

I recently bought four Hankook Ventus 205/45x17 R404. They came highly recommended from a reliable supplier (Tyres Northampton) and since there was no other choice and I was desperate, I went for them. £75 per corner. Others on here have found them to be very good, but it's too early for me to make a verdict. Happy so far. However, my half-worn F1s had split walls on the inside of all four and were in a very dangerous state. I am not the only one to have suffered this. No more F1s for me (sadly ).

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revolutions Speedometer Odometer Difference
205/50-16 4.0" 12.0" 24.1" 75.6" 838/mi 60MPH 10000mi N/A
215/40-17 3.4" 11.9" 23.8" 74.7" 848/mi 61MPH 10126mi -1.2%
205/45-17 3.6" 12.1" 24.3" 76.2" 831/mi 60MPH 9920mi 0.8%
215/45-17 3.8" 12.3" 24.6" 77.3" 819/mi 59MPH 9778mi 2.3%

I would love to have fitted 215/45x17 Michelin Pilot Sports as they are reputedly fantastic but they were £125 each and they only had three. They are only 0.3" taller in radius than the OEM 16in wheels and I would risk it, despite lowered Prodrive suspension.

Wheels should be 7" wide, not 6.5" which will make the tyre stand fractionally taller, but also slimmer. This might compensate for your too low off-set. It will be close though - can't you try them first?

Final comment: the tyre spec is only a guide and many tyres are quite a few mm wider/thinner than specificed - up to 5mm difference between brands is quite common. This probably explains why some people with identical wheels and identical spec tyres but from a different manufacturer can rub, while others don't.

Wheels and tyres are difficult on a Classic Scoob as they're so tight at the rear and mistakes are costly. The only way to be 100% certain is to fit them and try them on a bumpy road with a couple of mates in the back. You might be lucky but given the above, I wouldn't buy without trying them.

Richard.

I have run 215/45 on my classic for years, gives a slightly more comfortable ride, plus makes the speedo more accurate.
(speedo reads typically +10%, as these are slightly taller than standard this reduces the error)

My car runs Eibach springs, wheels are standard offset.

Cheers again guys,and hoppy.

with all that in mind i`ll leave the wheels i thin,as good as they are price wise, being 6.5" wide and the 45 profile that will prob be more 46 or 47 with the added "squish" of the tyre being put onto a 6.5" not 7" wheel, dont wanna mash my arches for the sake of some nicer wheels.

cheers again,i`ll keep my eye out for some 205/40/17 7" wheels

cheers
