Question 04 STI Brakes

HAving recently aquired a 04 STI, I had the brakes pads replaced by the guy i bought the car from, what i remember from driving another STI, the brakes were almost rock solid and impressive. I have only done a few hundred miles and they don't feel as good as the other car, do these type of pads/discs require warming up before they perform optimally. the other car was driven hard by the owner before i took over and test drove it.

The discs are still looking okay, but there is some travel before they show some feedback, the other car the brakes were solid with little or no travel.

Your thoughts are very much appreciated.

Is there an easy way of doing this without making a mess, also is there a procedure for doing this. Sorry but i am not mechanically minded hence the stupid questions.

Yes there is a procedure which is best left to somebody that knows what they are doing.

If you need to do it yourself you can buy a bleed kit that requires only one person otherwise 2 people are needed.

Got someone to check there were air bubbles in the brake fluid resovoir, so will have to get this sorted. How much does it cost to have this sort of thing done?

An 04 car will be overdue for a brake fluid change if it has been missed like most people do. Get this changed to 5.1 fluid by a decent specialist (I go to Scoobyclinic but that may be a bit far for you). Perhaps get Goodridge hoses fitted at same time. Also sounds as if you have some cheap and nasty pads fitted. Get some DS2500 or Pagid pads from Alyn at ASPerformance.
