My new Eagle F1's are truly awful, the load rating is 83Y and they handle like jelly.
What is the actual meaning of the term "83Y" is it a maximum weight? Im going to complain to the company that fitted them as they are very dangerous at high speed. Not happy they have supplied a tyre thats not strong enough for the car.

W Speed rating is 168mph
Y Speed rating is 186mph
Speed rating is based on the max speed the tyre can sustain for a 10 min period without breaking up and coming apart.
Load index figure relates to the max weight the tyre can safely carry.
83=487kg, 84=500kg, 87=545kg 91=615kg (91 is the load rating on F1 XLs)
Assuming roughly even weight distribution, multiply up the index weight by 4 and it'll give you a maximum vehicle weight (kerb+fuel+passengers+payload) for the tyres.
Well documented issues with the lower rated F1s on Imprezas (due to the stress the Impreza's drive system places on tyres) and would have thought you'd need at least an 87Y rated tyre.

The F1s of choice (the Xtra Load version) are rated at 91Y.
If the tyres are truly awful, double check you haven't been sold the 'made in Thailand dodgy grey import' F1s. These apparently use a different compound which doesn't work on UK road surfaces or this climate.
Search over the last 6 weeks should throw up the thread - think it originated from a rather helpful bloke at Goodyear - plenty of info on it about how to identify these and correct EU spec tyres.
Hope this makes sense and helps fella.
Cheers,
Stewart.
Might also be worth bearing in mind that F1s aren't the firmest, so if you have bought them to replace OEM Bridgestone RE050s -- which are much stiffer -- they will feel soft. That said, I have got used to mine. Steering feedback is fine and they are grippier than B'stones > all round much better.

Compared to the oem Bridgestones they do feel a little soft on cornering, but the do grip very well all the same.
Whats nice about them (and completely different to the RE040s that I had before) is that they don't really change much in the wet. They grip MUCH more than you would expect.

I have ordered the Y rated and load index of 91 as that is the ones Goodyear specify for the car.
The 215/45/17 is slightly different I think.

Ahh so there is a 94 as well!
Agree thou that grip is excellent, in the wet they are superb, shame mine have weak sidewalls. I had Yokohama Parada's on before, they were good tyres, Goodyears are better.............as long as they have the strong sidewall.
