rear brake discs stuck on!
Hi everyone,
Tried to change rear brake discs,STI V3, the other night but found they were stuck on.The calipers came off with no problems at all.Had the handbrake off and adjusted little wheel via hole at back. Would not budge at all.Tried the hammer method but no joy. There was no movement at all.Did friends 95 ra week before and both came off ok.Had to give one side a gentle tap but came off fine. They should be same set up ie take out 14mm bolts, remove 12mm to swing caliper up and withdraw caliper.Any advice welcome guys.Cheers Billy.

you need to loosen off the handbrake shoes , have a look around the back of the backplate , you will see a rubber grommet , take this out , inside there is a nut with lugs on , you wont be able to see it , but you need to put a flat head screw driver in , locate on the lugs , and spin them to loosen the shoes off , when you get the disc off you can see its workings , its a bit fidly

Tried that loosened fully off but still no joy.cheers anyway.Used a kids bike tyre lever made job a lot easier.Got a nice bend in so i could get good access to the toothed wheel.

Try striking with hammer (4lb club if you have one) on the drum part at right angles to the drive shaft (like you were trying to hit the face of the brake shoe underneath). Rotate wheel a bit and hit again etc. This should dislodge the disc from the drive shaft face. These can rot on pretty bad sometimes.

there should be 2x M6 threaded holes in the centre face that you simply place bolts into to apply pressure to the hub area to prevent damage to any other components..................
make sure you fully slacken the h/brake adjustment first as above
