Okay guys i think ive decided on these for my V7..

Alcon forged monoblock 6 pots. These come with 343mm cresent grooved fully floating discs.

The biggest disc i can really squeeze under my 17" track rims.

Just wondering if anyone here runs this setup and how they feel they perform?

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Who supplies Alcon kits out of curiosity? Have looked at their website but it doesn't seem to list any dealers.

They look a sweet setup mate and I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed if did buy them. Alcon have an excellent reputation.

Pad pricing is the usual, £125 or so upwards and the replacement rotors are about £215 each. So not really expensive to maintain either.

Heres some info i found on them.

An Alcon Motor Sport Brake upgrade is designed for those people who are serious about on-road and on-track brake performance. This track-quality level brake kit consists of the following parts:

Floating pin drive setup allows for proper expansion during thermal loading thus reducing rotor warping. Under repetitive high-load use, the rotor will expand both on the radius and the width. A properly designed floating system will compensate for the necessary thermal expansion of the particular rotor and hat combination. Machining tolerances are essential in offering a package that does not "run out of float".

They look totally awesome! How much do they cost ?

£1500 + VAT.. So your looking at £1762.50.

Not cheap but, there are lots of guys over on the MLR that seem to think that these are better than that of the AP equivalant.

I dont have this exact set up.

mine are not kit brakes, it's a bespoke set up that someone put together and then i bought it off him as he did not get round to putting them on his car. It cost him £2200

They are 356mm AP discs, with custom bells and brackets, mated to some Alcon 4 pots. The calipers are motorsport derived, so they have bigger pistons, no dust seals, made from top spec material etc.

So its not a direct comparrison to the Alcon kits, but i can say they work very well. On a track day Bruntingthorpe they went lap after lap braking from 160+ to maybe 30mph with no fade or problems whatsoever.

Interestingly, Olly Clark,who has driven many AP 6 pot equipped scoobs drove mine and said they are as good if not better. His comments were that they had similiar power but a slightly nicer feel. Mine are also anodised as opposed to the painted kit brakes

I'm sure the 4 and 6 pot kits they do will work very well. I have used Alcon brakes in other motorsport applications and they are quality. Its personal preference but i also think they look nicer rhan The AP's and everyone and his mother seems to have AP's these days.

Its odd how hardly any of the scooby boys seem to run these but the MLR lads love em. There are plenty of threads over on the MLR where people have changed from APs to these and said they felt they were better.

Alcon make quality kit for sure and these things will stop a train But are these for motorsport?

The big difference between road and track is that a race car's brakes will be stripped, checked and cleaned after each weekend so floating calipers (which can get clogged up with crap and stop floating) and lack of dust seals (which stop the pistons from rusting and getting stuck) are not a problem.

The other question is front-rear brake balance. Get that wrong and even the best brakes will have you in the ditch.

Should be easy enough to check these things though. Ask Prodrive, ask Alcon, and give Alyn at AS Performance a call for advice.

How do the Alcon replacement pad & disc prices compare to Brembo and AP Racing replacements?

Replacemant 343mm cresent grooved, floating rotors come in at £215 each.

Pads are from approx £125 to £400

Mintex F2's for example are approx £150.

I personally dont see this as expensive when you see what you get for your money.

Big price range mate yes.. but then remember that these are exactly what the Group N cars run. So full on WRC spec pads will be expensive.

The pads im likely to use will all be around £125 to £175 a set. Not bad when you consider a set of DS2500 for the AP 6 pots are IIRC about £220!!

i have only just painted my rears to match my prodrive alcon fronts, Dont tell me i will need to spray them again if i change to these!

I had fully floating discs on a previous car and they will need regular cleaning they can also rattle like a bitch which may annoy you as it did me. I now have a fixed bell setup which is easier to maintain and less noisy and performance wise i can't really tell the difference. My opinion would be to go with a fixed bell/disc if it's available for what it's worth.

Although mine do get quiter after the old jet wash clean by my local foreign friends in the pub car park! So there must be dirt and dust causing something to get noisy on mine too.

Mine are fully floating but sprung loaded so they wont rattle... even if they do its not like the car gets driven regularly anyway.

Fair enough i had them fitted to my daily transport so they got on my wick. They're top quality items whichever way you look at it and would certainly turn my head in a car park!!
I've recently been offered a set of water cooled ap 6 pots of jason plato's renault laguna british touring car i'm sure i could make them fit !! lol
