New Back brake pads - now lower 1/2 of disc is rusty?
Put on some new motor factor ( Quinton Hazel ) rear pads to my 94 1 pot rear calipers on my JDM wagon turbo.
In a couple of days noticed the middle / inner half of the disc was rusty, on visible outside by wheel, as if the pads were not touching the disc.
Took pads off again, noticed shims ( plastic? coated ) had the coating off in places, so left off the full width shims.
BUT in a few days more the discs were rusting half way in.
Back of pads and shims had coppaslip on.
Any one got any idea why? Old pads didn't do this, new pads seem flat, so why would the pads be slightly angled so lower part misses discs?
I assume the pads will wear into the discs at this new angle, but why?
The inner pad has a metal bracket on it at one end, I assume this IS forthe inner pad, and I haven't put pads in wrong sided? ( Old ones that were OK on discs were same way! ).
Thanks

Hi Alyn
I took them all off again last week and removed the shims; there was plenty of copaslip on the back of pads and on the carrier lugs.
Pads came out of carrier readily enough with light finger pressure, didn't check if caliper slid OK though ... could I have bolted the caliper bolt too tight I wonder?
the top 1/2 of disk os fine, just the bottom 1/2 is going rusty .. expectedthe pads to bed in and even if slanted somehow to touch all of disk.
Looks like brakes of again at weekend!
Cheers Alyn, I need to ring you Thursday anyway!!

Absolutely!
These pads - 2 weeks, maybe 300 miles?
The discs were changed ( and shoes, pads ) about 2 years ago, the pads were only half worn but as I was doing fluid and front pads I did the rears too.
The discs did look OK but a minute wear irregularity would not be easily visible. Studying the discs again, may be cracks starting to develop so I think time for motor factor rear discs again!
Thanks for the help
