Default Newage rims

Guys,
Im looking at buying some newage rims but they have 225/45/17 tyres on them, will they be too wide ?
Can I get around this problem with spacers ?

I guess it depends what they are going on? Classic?

pretty sure they'll rub on the arches. sure 215's is the biggest possible without doing anything silly!

How do people manage to get 18's on without rolling arches etc.
The chap selling them has had them on his classic so im not sure what to do, has anyone out there got 225/45/17 tyrres on thier classic?
