Brake Pad Upgrade Recommendations
Experiencing some issues trying to find the 'best' pad for a MY02 WRX.
Car is used as a daily driver, but generally for short distances (<10KM's) and certainly not at 'race' pace.
Car is also seriously abused at least monthly on our one and only racetrack, with Bridgestone RE55S trackday tyres
Car fitted with Godspeed 335mm front brakes with standard 'spacered' WRX 4 pot calipers, braided hoses and brake fluid replaced at least every 6 months. Rear brakes are standard with braided hoses.
I was running standard rear pads and EBC Redstuff Ceramic fronts, until these wore out (5 sets of front pads to 1 set of rears!)
I then decided to try EBC Yellowstuff as the Reds were experiencing fade after about 12 minutes of a 20 minute session.
So far the Yellows have not lived up to expectation.
In the first trackday after fitting (with 350km's road use to bed them in) one session into the day ended with smoke pouring from all eight pads, the paint carbonising and absolutely no brakes at all. Eventually they cooled and carried on working (to a degree) but I lost all confidence in them.
For the subsequent trackday (last Friday) I swapped back to a set of well used (approx 4mm of material left) Red Stuff Ceramic's for the front, leaving the Yellows in the back.
At the end of each session the rear pads were smoking, while the fronts were fine, although I was not being overly aggressive with the brakes (including allowing myself to be out-braked by a standard Z3M Coupe)
While I would love to go to AP 6 pots I can't see the wife accepting that 'investment'
The Godspeed upgarde kit uses Jaguar/Aston Martin pads, so I'm not sure I can get Pagid etc to suit
Any ideas in scoobynet land?
Thanks
Neil

AS Performance - Rally Motorsport Specialists
I'd look at Ferodo DS2500/3000's or if they have them Pagid RS42 Blue
