Snow Chains?
I saw loads in Halfords yesterday, and they stock a wide variety of sizes. AFAIK, it's illegal not to carry chains in mountainous regions of certain countries (not sure which, sorry).
Are they OK with your alloys? I remember my dad having them years ago and seem to remember they looked like they would scuff yer alloys in a second. Do modern ones come with padding or something?
Interested after bending a 17" alloy in the snow last year when a lady decided that as the snow was obscuring the road markings they didn't apply and I ended up with 4 wheels on the pavement!!!

Can't be absolutely certain they won't scratch alloys, but Konig's chains are well regarded (and pricey).
Yeti snow nets and suchlike are less likely to scratch your alloys, but are not quite as effective when the going gets heavy or very icy according to some.

Buy them on route if you're travelling during the day. Available in supermarkets, filling stations, sports shops(Decathlon etc)and tyre dealers and fitters. Much greater choice and much much cheaper because the're just a normal piece of equipment. Check the distance between the inside of your tyre and the strut. This can be quite narrow with larger rims and you may need the flatter 9mm chains. Practice fitting them before you HAVE to use them.

No great debate required. Subaru recommend you only fit them to the front and they probably know best (actually, I think the whole concept of chains is crap and don't bother at all
) - if you check the clearance on the struts at the back you will see why.
