Default Brembo brakes

Hi all,

I am fairly unimpressed with the performance of my standard brakes, I have a MY03 WRX Wagon and love it....apart from the stoppers. They just don't seem strong enough.
I have been looking at a second hand Brembo brake kit off a MY03 STi, not sure if they are JDM or not, but my question is will these fit behind my standard 17" wheels?

Thanks for any help.

No they won't. You need some '01,'02 or '03 Sti wheels or a set of 18's. That said, I believe you can fit them under your standard wheels with some spacers. I've been waiting to be able to afford new wheels and brakes, but might have to try the spacer option as I too am fed up of poor braking and can't stretch to rims and tyres. Upgrading your pads, disks and adding braided hoses improves things, but the Brembos can be had 2nd hand for not much more.

Thanks guys, appreciate your advice. Anyone know if the spacer option is an easy and a safe route to take? I can't stretch to new wheels and brakes so the second hand brembos would be a brilliant.

What about the Godspeed 335mm kit , this retains the standard subaru 4 pot calipers , and will fit nearly all 17" wheels , I had this on my car before upgrading to AP 6 pots , it was very good

There is a group buy at the moment , and these are £575 delivered

Thanks James,

£575 sounds interesting.....where and how can I find the group buy? Are they alot better than the standard brakes or just slightly better.....wish I could stretch to APs!

There you go, from a fellow MY03 WRX Wagon owner.

https://www.scoobynet.com/group-buys...roup-buys.html

I have the 335mm Godspeed discs & red 4 pot Brembos but they nestle under 18" Wolfrace wheels. Very popular kits from Godspeed.

Hey Mark,

Thanks buddy

Appreciate your help, just can't afford 18" just yet but definatley need to sort out the brakes. Mind you I have seen some that I may be able to stretch to in a month or two. Maybe pick up the Brembos at the same time.....I can hear my credit card melting

hi guys

im interested in this conversion myself....but i have a 2001 bugeye wrx and have been told by scoobyclinic that for my model the sti calipers bolt straight on,although you need the discs aswell...so from reading the above posts i presume the my03 differs quite a bit from the my01...

cheers

Hi mate

I fitted some newage brembos to my classic, using my exisiting wheels, 10mm spacers and longer wheel studs and it worked a treat!

There is a massive improvement, they are fully bedded in now and these just give you much better initial bite and so much more confidence to brake later! You will not be disappointed.

good....last week i took my mate for a 'quick spin' in it,as he hadnt been in it since scoobyclinic played with it.....went to brake for a round-a-bout and there was nothing...plenty of feel at the pedal just no stopping power....could just be the pads but not so sure

its definately a job to be done..

Brembos and spacers for me I think in the next few weeks. Are you using the standard pads with 'em or others. They look like EBC disks too?

If it is an 03wrx then the brembos will fit under the wheels because the 03sti had the same wheels but they were gold.

Autotrader - SUBARU IMPREZA 2.0 WRX STi 4dr,PRODRIVE PACK,PPP

The only difference is fitting the rears, I don't think they will bolt straight on because the hubs are different. Do a search becuase I can't remember but this has been done lots of times on here.

Nope the wheels are different on '03 Sti and '03 wrx. The Sti rims are wider and have more clearance for the larger calipers. Hence 225 width tyres on Sti and only 215 on wrx. The front Brembos will bolt straight on, its just the wheel clearance issue. As you say, back Brembos can be made to fit but aren't a straight swap like the fronts.

That's strictly true the calipers will bolt straight on. But then the wheels won't fit. So as well as the discs you also need the wheels from an STi.

You can use spacers and longer wheels studs to retain your current wheels on the front, for the rear brembos you can purchase a fitting kit from Ian Godspeed for around £200 but you will also need the larger sti discs.

I guess if you spend a few grand having them designed and tested before selling them , you must have some hold on the design , so for someone to make an exact copy and sell them cheaper can't be right ??

Whats a patend ??

No , the dyney ones are completely different in design and material to the Godspeed ones , The CDF ones above are identical to the Godspeed ones

And actually the Dyney ones are a copy of the Godspeed USA ones ;D

But the Godspeed kit also has the handbrake shoes you need to fit to the rear.

Without them the handbrake won't work. Least for classic conversion AFAIK.

If anyone wants a complete set of 335 Godspeeds including 4 pot calipers, I'm selling for £500.

Ian has his nay-sayers but he helped me out alot.

The hand brake shoes are only needed if you use the STi discs as the have a larger handbrake drum, I'm assuming that the Godspeed kit would allow you to use the WRX rear discs, which would mean you don't need the handbrake shoes.

Do you mean newage rear brakes though? Don't all newages use 2 pot rears?

Sorry, I'm on about a classic conversion.

Im sorry but I didn't know these were a copy .

A customer has gave us a sample to copy and that is what we have done - Just like if someone gives us a sample pulley to make ,

If we make them how we like they wouldn't be right,

Sorry if I have upset anyone but I had never heard of godspeed untill just know .
