Thumbs down

Hello,

I have an MY00 coupe. Brakes are standard 4pots, with Bozz Speed rotors, and COBB pads. On my passenger side, there is an awfull grinding sound when turning left. I got out and looked at my discs, the top of the disc has abrasions (new), yet the lower part doesnt. So it looks like uneven wear... And idea what is causing this? Do you think the caliper my be unaligned? Please help.

Thanks,

Daniel

Check play in wheel bearing. A loose one will cause exactly the symptoms you describe.

As you turn the disc will tilt slightly outwards at the top (caliper remains stationary) as the inward force is at the bottom on a left hand turn. This causes pad to make contact with top of disc, hence noise and outer edge scoring.

I've had four separate bearing failures done under warranty in 40K (MY99) - they definitely aren't bulletproof on Scoobs!

No expert, sounds like wheel bearing(s) to me, could be a sticking pad or brake piston not returning. If it is brakes binding, the car may wander towards the binding side, try driving and take your hands (just) off the steering wheel and see if it pulls to the problem side.

Just a thought, you may have a piece of road debris or stone trapped between the pad and the disk?!?

Sorry this isn't much help

Hm... Thanks.

I guess it is probably a wheel bearing

I'm going to have it looked at.

It may just be that the central screw of the wheel (don't known the technical term) that needs to be retightened. Mine had this problem.
They told me at the service that a wheel bearing is noisy at all times and not just when turning.

Hmmmm...
The wheel bearing isn't actually making noise, its the brake that is making a bunch of noise... I'll check that out today, thanks mate!

You are absolutly marvolous!

It was that, after taking off the brakes, looking at the wheel bearing, and all! hahah. Just goes to show, its always the simplest thing. *shurg*

If the central nut is loose, it is normally an indication that the bearing is worn.

The nut is locked with a tab after being torqued up, so can only be loose if there is more bearing play than there used to be.
