I have a MY04 WRX with brakes that have never been brilliant with feeling spongy aswell.

On looking on here and from my previous Impreza, I have recently changed the front pads to PAGID (1-2-1)I think.
I have kept the standard disks.

After fitting they seemed still not great, even after bedding them in.

They brakes stop okay eventually but have a really spongy pedal.

I had the brakes bled by Subaru which helped but they still are spongy.

What does everyone think of PAGID brake pads. I had them fitted on my MY94 and thought they were superb?
Is it the fact that they are RACE pads means that they feel poor on normal driving?

Anyone got any ideas on anything else that could cause my brakes to be poor? Servo etc? I know I could do lots of mods with Goodrich hoses etc but the point is that my brakes are not as good as on my old car with no mods.

i personally have never found the brakes to be that good on all three of my scoobys 00.. 03... 06, and i tried EBH Reds on the 03 and noticed no improvement.
the brakes on my vauxhall combo 06 are brilliant and will put the scooby brakes to shame

You've not had bad brakes....... the V1/2 RA's came with 2 pot sliders, scary trying to stop even in low speeds.

Find the Pagid RS42-1 black a very good pad in combination with goodridge lines.

Remember Subaru brakes are not over servo'd like most cars so more effort is required, you'll be pleasantly surprised how effective they actually are before the ABS kicks in.

Previous had a STi Type R with standard calipers and goodridge lines with Ferodo DS2500's, found these to be excellent as well and no ABS!

Thanks for your replies so far.

I guess to pin down just one question. Why are by brakes spongy? The pedal travels at least 1 inch before anything seems to happen.
It doesnt appear to be air in the system as I have had the lines bled.

Mechanical movement in the servo??

best bet is to try someone elses scooby of the same year to do a comparison, i would have thought that if the system has been thouroughly bled by a trained Suburu tech then he should know if its right or not
