Its a newage car, have had 235/45s in a dunlop D01J on before and it wasnt even close to rubbing on those, could happily house a 245.

Neil,
What dunlops did you try that were 235 wide? Not Steven's I assume, as they are 215. You need 8" wide rims for 235 really.
If you want these for timeattack next year, then I might be able to help you.

No these werent Stevens Paul, they were Terrys from the first silverstone round, he had 235/45s that he couldnt fit on his car due to exessive rubbing but on my 7.5" standard sti rims they worked very nicely. When i can find a sensible set of other wheels/tyres then i will be removing the STI wheels and using those for track use only.
(and yes, i do want them for next year, not only for TA but for general track use in the build up to TA)

They offer more grip, quite simply they are the best R compound tyre on the market.
I've not heard great things about R888's
I've yet to hear a bad thing about MPSC.

just read a review of them and they gave it a 1 out of 5 for lifespan, obviously i dont know what their scale is but would you say that would get me through a year of track work? (when i say a year i mean maybe 8 or 9 trips to a track)
I agree they do look good for grip though although they dont seem to have an much rubber on the road as the DO1J ro AO48 (or even the 888 for that matter....)

Hard to say how long they last, most tyres like this will be killed through bad geometry, or using them on the road. If you wear them out evenly through track use alone, then you "might" get your 8/9 track days a year. Or if like me you ruin the inner or outer edge first you might not!
Every now and again, a set come up on ebay, I saw some 225/45/17 on there recently.
What I'd like to see is a test of these tyres on several cars on one track on the same day, and measure wear and lap times etc.

Camskill doing set of 4 R888s for £542 = £135.50 per corner
TOYO TYRES / TRACKDAY-TRACK DAY / TOYO R888 - TOYO R 888 - 235/45R17 93W SET OF 4 : £542.00 : Track Day Tyres - Trackday Tyres - Motorsport Tyres : R17\" - 235/45/17, 235/45 R17 -
Not sure the feedback I've heard from them is all that great - especially on dry tracks - but they are awesome in the damp/ wet (very soft compound) but no good for standing water

I think you'll struggle to get hold of D01Js as they are now obsolete and replaced with D02Js, not sure if anyone knows of any old stock - that's how I bought the set you used before Neil.
A048s might be the way - speak to Litcho - as I know they use them on their track cars

Was that on a sprint? Or a track event where you had longer to get some heat into them??
Cheers

I've run a couple of sets of 888s now, and, like everything else, they need a fair bit of wear before they excel.
I've also used the Pilot Cup Sports, and to be honest there's not much in it, although in my opinion the Toyo's have a slight edge in the wet.
I'm using the Kumho KU15s at the moment- the dry grip isn't quite as good as the Pilot or the R888, but the wet stability, and ability to handle standing water, is a bit better. Edited to add that the KU15s are bloody cheap too, about half the price of the R888s!
