Default Callipers from another car

browseing fleabay i fing that you can buy brembo callipers from other makes of vehicle MUCH cheaper then the subaru stuff.

has anybody ever dabbled with callipers from another car>?

i have a hunch that the brembo callipers might be universal between a few different makes, i noticed this a few years back when comparing a few different ford and vauxhall callipers, where they looked pretty identical

there is a nice set of new brembo jaguar callipers on there for £200, i have also seen fiat ones etc etc

plenty of other make stuff if you look.

i know flat4 fitted some MG AP callipers to his, although he had to do a lot of messing about IIRC

The Fiat photos look like a male fitting on the end in the pictures rather than a banjo bolt.

But apart from that yes brake pipe fittings are pretty much universal, either 3/8 x 24 unf if imperial or M10x1 if metric. You can then get a custom hose made up to suit very simply or make one yourself, also very simple. The difficult to sort fittings are the non-standard like those Subaru use to secure the hose onto the strut body. So if making custom hoses top tip is to buy off the shelf scooby hoses and undo the caliper end fitting and replace it with whetever your new caliper needs.

Fittings are generally female in the caliper but I always use a male to male adaptor fitted permanently into the caliper and put a female hose end on the pipe. That way if you wear out / damage / cross thread then it's on a cheap adaptor rather than an expensive caliper.

If banjo's suit the application then you can get a unviersal banjo end to use with either a metric or imperial banjo bolt.
