No, it's only road legal track stuff that heats up that quick. Toyo 888, Yoko A032R, Avon ACB10, Avon CR322 Turbospeed, Michelin TB05/TB15.

Thanks for the replies.
I am looking for something from list 1a (msa blue book) hence asking for those that are not the road legal track stuff.
Any other suggestions?

The whole point of list 1A is that it's standard road compounds so nothing in list 1A will be soft compound or heat up quick. If it was then it would be in list 1B.

If you want to know what is the best (least worst?) list 1A then that's a different question. It's likely to be the usual suspects, Toyo T1S or R, GSD3.

There is a list 1A tyre that's cleaning up in sprints this year, Stunners from Scudo (or Scudo from Stunner?) seems to be softer than the others. Available in 15" sizes but no idea if it comes in more usual Scoobie sizes. Expect it to be reclassified to list 1B next year.

I went out in a fast Caterham the other week on a private sprint day and the car was on 1/2 worn Stunners.

They ARE VERY impressive, and i would expect to see them classed as 1B's in 2007.
If not, then they are very very effective...on a Caterham.

I have only seen them on 13/15'' rims. A freind hillclimbed some on his 360 bhp Cossie and they were crap. This guy knows how to hillclimb and is no slouch, so if they were good, then his times would have shown them to be good.
I think the carcase is weak on a heavy car?

Ian, BMTR in Birmingham sell them, would be interested to see how you get on.
As to the normal 1A's I think all the usual candidates are good, but i would favour the Toyos having hillclimbed on them in my early days with the car. Especially good when very worn!
Truely the very best 1A was the Bridgestone SO2 Pole Position, now no longer available in UK, but still available in the USA (I think), but possibly not listed in the 1A section?
