Default cleaning discs

i've just bought a set of 02 WRX discs for a brake conversion, there's plenty of life in the disc but lots of surface rust (more or less the whole surface!) what would be the best way to remove this without buggering up the disc surface? any help would be appreciated (just read Dunk's post but these seem a bit more serious condtion then that!) would having the surface lightly skimmed on a lathe be any good? cheers, andy

A light sanding and spray clean with brake cleaner fluid will do.
