225 or 235 uk and JDM sti tyre sizes

is there any physical reason for uk cars having the slightly norrower tyre , ie rims are wider or can I fit 235 to my uk car if I wanted with no issue ?

think it is down to ride comfort tbh - 235's will fit easy enough on a newage 05 onwards with the 8J wheel width
