advice please....right i have 16's on my classic just now
i have 17's to put on(but need a new tyre) 215/40/17 but i have the chance of buying 4 215/45/17's for a decent price. the question is will they rub? its lowered a wee bit.

Mine rub on heavy cornering and full bump on the front. My car is lowered and this is with 17" MY01 WRX alloys.

215/40s or 205/45s are the "right" sizes for a Classic on 17s. Some people have used 215/45s with no issues though...
Whether it'll rub or not will depend on the wheel offset (should be 50-52mm) and the wheel width (should be 7J or 7.5J) and the state of your suspension links and top mounts.
People have successfully used 18x8s on a classic so anything is possible.
IMO you need to suck it and see...
