Default hand brake light

I have a 01 bugeye import STI and the hand brake light has come on.
I took it to my local subaru dealer for a service and other than new front pads the breaking system is fine.
When I start the car in the morning the light isn't on.......even when I reverse out its fine......it just comes on and stay's on when I drive forward.
I have thought about driving in reverse everywhere but I know I'd get neck ache.?

thanks for any help.

sometimes the float in the brake fluid resevoir sticks, could well be this.............would have thought that a dealer would have checked the system over properly if you took it in with this light on??

yea, the light was on when I took it in, they said they had a quick look at it but at £65 an hour labour I'm glad they didn't spend too much time on it.
