Rear handbrake shoe adjustment - PITA !!
Hi Guys,
I'm upgrading my rear brakes at the mo', but I'm having a little trouble backing off the handbrake shoes so I can take the disc off.
I've popped off the rubber bung at the back, which revealed a rectangular hole with rounded corners......now, I know there's a cog behind there somewhere that releases the shoes enough to allow the disc to come off.
The question is, where the **** is the cog that needs turning ?? (I've been poking around to no avail -tell me I'm poking in the right place!). I can also see a small arrow that points upwards.
-Any clue as to where this cog is in relation to the slot and arrow would most appreciated !!
TIA - Gingerbreadman
(MY00 classic if that helps).

Had the same problem until ian at godspeed sorted it out for me, it runs virticle, pop a screw driver in and flick it either up or down depending on whether you want to tighten or loosen, (it's in the middle)

Nicely done DannyBoy !! Thank you !!
I did notice something in the middle, I guess I didn't want to force it. I was also probably looking for a tiddly little sprocket on the L or RH side !!
Thanks again. I'll let you know how it goes.
silent running,
You're still having 'fun' with your brakes too then ?! After I've done these rears, that's me and brakes finished for a long time - can of worms everytime!
Have fun.

LOL yeah I can't leave it alone. The fronts are done but I need to do the rear shoes. I keep getting the bits off ebay and saving them up to do everything in one go.

smack in the middle of the hole is the toothed wheel.
rotates vertically.
Ideally you need an L shaped pick tool to push and pull the cog as required.
Havn't you ever heard of a torch

All sorted now.
Andy, my second attempt involved a torch, a beer, and a small piece of meccano- which proved most successful! (should have used a torch in the first place I know )
The meccano was perfect for grabbing the little cog and turning it.
