Default Goodyear GS-D3 tyre question

I'm in serious need of a new set of tyres for my STI. Been thinking of taking the GS-D3 route however have read a lot about splitting tyre walls on the 83y rated tyres.

I've seen a sety on mytyres ratred as EAGLE F1 GS-D3 225/40 ZR18 92Y XL BSW, VSB

Are these the improved version and will they be ok with a 240+bhp 04 STI?

I'm on my second set of 225/40/18 XL GSD3s on 330bhp 03STi and absolutely no probs at all. The XL is for extra load and are the ones you want. I do run my pressures fairly high at 39/35 rather than the recommended 34/31, sharpens things up a bit, and improves wear at the expense of ride. Got 24k out of last set.

Cheers, Diccy.

Over the last 7 years or so, I've had every model of Eagle F1 in a few different sizes, profiles and pressures. Never, ever had any problems with sidewalls splitting, nor have I ever heard of it from anyone else. The only thing is the shoulders do tend to wear quite noticeable with track work, but then that isn't exactly surprising.

Just my experience, for what it's worth.

I've used GSD3s for the last 4 years since my OE tyres wore out and have never had any problems with the sidewalls, even with some enthusiastic driving.
