Anybody know of a good guide to fitting new calipers, discs, pads, hoses and changing the brake fluid?

Any help appreciatted.

Its a MY00 P1 to be exact, but they are all pretty much the same and use the same principal.

Does anyone know of a method to completely flush out the old brake fluid (ie dot4)before putting in the new fluid (ie dot5). As i here any slight mixture of the two will cause problems

 

Syphon off as much of the old fluid from reservoir as possible before filling with new stuff and bleeding as normal allowing plenty of new fluid out of each nipple will further reduce any old stuff left in the system..

Don't use DOT5, it's a silicon based fluid designed for muppets who have old cars they never drive except for 10 yards off the drive onto a trailer to take it to a show. Not big or clever.

You want DOT5.1 which is proper high performance stuff. There's no problem mixing DOT4 and DOT5.1 so no need to flush out first. Just bleed thro with the new stuff until it goes all clean and new then you know it's 99% new. Keep bleeding a couple more times and it will be all new and Robert's your father's brother.

 

As suggested above syphon fluid from the reservoir before filling to reduce the overall quantity to replace but don't be tempted to pump it out through the bleed nipples and refill. If you get air in the ABS unit it is a bugger to shift.

If you use a different colour brake fluid it helps you know when it has flushed the old through.
