Question Rear wheel getting hot!!!!

Hi All,

I noticed today on my 99 uk wagon that my rear offside wheel including the tyre seemed to be very hot compared to the others, the other side was very warm and the fronts were cool!
I have been driving normally with no hard braking, brake pads are all OK discs show no signs of over heating and tyre pressures ok any ideas?

Cheers

Carl

Possibly the caliper on that side is sticking, or the handbrake shoe is sticking or adjusted too tight.

If the rear brake etc is OK then perhaps the wheel bearings are at fault (usually causes a rumbling/droning noise at certain speeds) or there is a manufacturing fault with that particular tyre (can swap wheel and tyre to front on same side for a test).

Hi Kevin,

As it goes I have bought some new wheels and tyres today!! I just hope they fit, they are 225 / 45 r17 90 W tyres. What do you think? I hope I wont need to do any arch mods!

Cheers

Perhaps the tyres will modify the arches for you, might smoke a bit though.

Hi All,

The hot wheel problem has now been cured!!! It was due to the tyre!!! although being fully pumped up it was still creating lots of heat??

I now have my new wheels fitted with the 225/45/17 tyres and all seems well with no rubbing!
