I currently have the standard brakes on my P1 and like most people am not finding them paricularily impressive.

I am thinking of upgrading with a Godspeed set-up as they seem to be highly reccommended and I don't have sufficient funds to go for one of the more pricy makes having only recently bought the car by paying the deposit with an overdraft!

Can anyone help by telling me how suitable this upgrade would be for the P1 and how difficult it would be to fit them myself, bearing in mind the fact that I have a fairly limited mechanical ability!?!

If you have 'limited mechanical experience' I wouldn't fit brakes yourself, bearing in mind that the brakes are possibly the most important piece of safety equipment on the car.
RE: Godspeed, I have the 'standard' size disc kit that Ian does, and I for one am very pleased with it, there are a few on this bbs that moan about Ian, but not normally the goods that he makes and supplies, you will not get better quality, (imho), the kit that he does for the 17" wheels is very effective both in braking and cost.

With regard to getting the brakes fitted, if I get them delivered by Mail order does anyone know a mechanic/garage in the South East area who would be able to fit them for me.

Si, fitting brakes is a very easy one-man job, but as Ron says, if you're not confident, get it done professionally.

Any garage should be able to help. What's wrong with your local Scoob dealer? Shouldn't take more than an hour. If you go for upgraded hoses and fluid, that will take about the same time as well, but is a two-man job (one has to pump the pedal). Do you reckon you're up to pumping the pedal Only joking!

Are you going for the big Godspeed disc and ally bell, using upgraded pads in your calipers? Everyone says this works very well and a bargain at the price.

Wouldn`t these `alternative` brakes adversely affect the warranty ?

I have read on other threads that changing the breaks will only affect the warranty on the brakes themselves and not the overall warranty.

I did'nt realise I could buy brakes and then take them to my dealer to fit them!

Anyway, can anyone please tell me how much the full Godspeed setup costs?

I have a P1 and I am too suffering the same problem. Unfortunately, I can't afford, neither do I want to spend close to £2000 on a decent brake setup, so I did some investigating. I have found a setup of similar design to the AP, but of better quality and performance for a fraction of the price.

I have sorted an unbelievable price for a group buy!! So for just a little more than the Godspeed big disk kit, you can have an entire AP style Ally caliper and disk kit, which in my opinion, is even better than the AP 4 pot! Have a look at the group buy post, in this section.
