Without wanting to be preaching to the converted, the grooves are more than cosmetic. £75 is reasonable money for someone to machine the grooves, although I do see your point.

grooves are mostly cosmetic, any increase in performance (be it braking or cooling), is negligible...its a very labour intensive job tho so the price increase is understandable to a degree.

You won't get glazed pads if you have grooved discs..... so they do 'do' something!! and let's face it, £75 is not a lot of money when you look at the grand scheme of things, add up what the conversios has cost already, and you're almost not getting the best out of it by NOT having grooves.....

as stated negligible benefits at best...lots of urban 'myth type' benefits to grooved disks. i'd rather spend the money on increasing my front brakes by the same proportion to ensure balanced braking.

Ive got 335mm Godspeeds up front (Grooved!) and the 290mm on the rear.

Nice balanced braking.

i think thats what i'm going to go with...ian's two piece disks are a really nice bit of kit and they are also excellent value especially when you see the cost of either alcon or brembo replacment disks...even if they are grooved lol

I believe Ian Godspeed rear discs are DBA discs(mine were), but then he cuts those nice grooves in them, which sets them apart and help to vent brake gasses/ clean the pad surface

i asked Ian yesterdy and he said the only difference between his disks and the OEM versions are the grooves or holes.

yes they are the same size as the standard Subaru discs , but he doesn't use Subaru discs to groove ,he uses another make , if thats what your asking.

thats what i asked...and Ian said there was NO difference so that must include the materials so they are fundamentally the same disks.

Just remember the spare spacesaver will not go over the 2 pot conversion. I found out the hard way, you will need spacers or a full size spare.

Never tried it, but will a full size spare fit in the wheel well?

I asked Dyney about it, he has a full size and it pushes the boot carpet up about 2 inches.

As Hakon said the full size spare does fit in the wheel well (A space saver will have the same diameter) but the false floor and carpet are pushed up about 2"
I just removed the false floor and stored it

Just had an idea. My Cav GSI has a riased carpet for the very same thing. The 4x4 floorpan has the tank under the wheel well and therefor pushes the tyre further into the boot area.

Time to butcher that carpet!!!
