Hi P1,
I've got 215/40/ZR17.
I hope thats a good price. When I challenged Pro-Tyre they said that as they were the official importer I wouldn't get a better deal. I've not alot of time to test that but I'll try tomorrow.

Have lasted 30,000miles ... Michelin Pilot Sports, need replacing in next 500 miles or so.
Been rummaging through my bills and service invoices - it's service is due now.
I am about to buy some new Front Brake discs and pads from Subaru - I guess that 67,000miles out of the originals isn't bad and therefore worth buying Subaru parts now?
Just thought I would report at what can be achieved on these cars if the owner/driver can actually drive properly and treat the vehicle with a lot of mechanical sympathy. I must add that the mileages achieved are not good for me - the car must be a brake and tyre eater in reality.
Pete
So have you done 500 miles and changed your tyres since then Pete?

Muppet .... if you read it properly you will see that the Michs are on my FRONT wheels.
The Falkens are on the rear.
The Michs need replacing now - after 30,000miles ..... the rears are about 6 months old and are the Falkens talked about here.
So, the point of your post being, what, exactly????

I'll tell you what. They used to be a decent company... They even used to offer to pick up your car and do mobile fittings too.
I ordered a set of 452's on Wednesday delivery on thursdsay fitting today
I got to them at 8.20am and was told that they hadn't had delivery yet.
When I ordered them a few days previous I stated that I would leave my name and number in case of any problems. They told me not to worry and just took my name. Well what a professional act! I just said thanks and turned to leave. They then asked for me to leave my number (whats the point now?) and not to get annoyed with them as it wasn't there fault. After lecturing them on customer care I've now ordered a set online and will find a fitter next week when they arrive.
They didn't offer me any viable solutions either!
Rant over.

Remember that if you can find some outlet with 451's left then they are about £49 each!!
MyTyres are doing them for that - delivered!!
Add valve and fitting/balancing at £10 a tyre and you have got some excellent rubber for £240 a car!!!!

Bear in mind the ZE512's are not as "good" as the 451/452.
I have the Falken ZE512 in 225/50/17 on my Forester, and they are a huge improvement over the standard Yokohama Geolanders.
My Golf is running 225/40/18 Falken 451 on the front, and some appalling Khumos on the rear. The fronts need replacing soon, and the rears should be replaced whatever happens!!
The cheapest places I've found in the 225/40/18 size have been:
www.camskill.co.uk
www.falkens.co.uk
Bear in mind Camskill have free delivery on tyres, and Montys (who owns the Falkens.co.uk website) charge £20 for delivery.

I have Falken 225-40-18's (452's) all round now on my STi which has PFF7 wheels, they are great and superb in the wet, feel just as good if not better than the 17" avons I had on it before

Tomorrow, I have 2 Falken 452's going on my front wheels - £120 fitted.
They are replacing the Michellins - which have now covered 30,000miles - I doubt the Falkens will last as long ....... but they are 1/2 the price roughly!

Remember I am talking the UK standard tyres - 205/50 ZR 16 ......

Just got Falken 452s from Camskills and fitted locally for £10 a corner so about £240 all in.
I can't tell if they are better or worse than previous Toyos in the dry for ultimate grip, but I do find them 'harder' I've read they give a hard ride which was accounted for by the reviewers by a stiff sidewall.
It does feel this way to me, and subjectively I think there is slightly more feel when cornering but ultimate grip seems very similar i.e. GOOD
Yet to try them near the limit in the wet, shouldn't be a problem in the next few days though. Nows the time to change if you need new tyres - the rainy season is upon us and even ****e tyres with 8mm of tread will be better than the dogs brands that are nearly slick.
Lets not have a surge of crashes eh
