SPEEDLINE CHRONOS+SPACERS+4POTS
AYE UP, MANAGED TO GET A SET OF 17'' SPEEDLINE CHRONOS. REALLY LIKE THE LOOK OF THESE WHEELS AND HAD EM ON MY PREVIOUS SCOOBY. THING IS MY NEW SCOOBY (CLASSIC WAGON) HAS 4POTS AND SO THE WHEELS WOULD NOT CLEAR THE CALIPERS. SO I HAVE FITTED A SET OF 5MM SPACERS ALL ROUND WITH 225/45/17 TYRES. THIS SEEMS OKAY AND DRIVES WITH NO PROBLEMS.
IS THIS OKAY?

IMHO:
I would be 'worried' about loosing 5mm of thread engagement on each wheel nut.
The standard nut (chrome dome headed) has about 15mm of thread engagement, so you have reduced the engagement by about 30%.
However, much depends on the machining of the nuts centres on the wheels too!
Nobody is going to say it is ok. (no engineer that is) and if you did have a crunch then....
You could always keep a check on the nut torque and see how you get on.
Not sure if this helps you, but you did ask!
BEST solution is to have longer motorsport studs fitted to all hubs and you will be perfectly safe.
You could do worse than contact Alyn at AS Performance, an ace rally guy (who sells studs and nuts). He is in the north east.
