Brakes - which ones
I'm looking at a brake upgrade on MY98 Type R V4, front and rear.
What's the best price/performance compromise? Should I get a set of second hand sti7/8 Brembo's or maybe a Godspeeed 335/355 conversion for my calipers.
Will, sti7/8 Brembo's fit the rear - I believe they'll fit the front - just bolt on, but how about the rears? I guess I have a 180 rear diff.
So may questions....................
Any help peeps greatly appreciated.

You may have problems getting your wheels over the Brembo Brakes that come with the new age STi's, they are more promenant and the wheels reflect this in their design.

Thanks for the observation Tony, but, I'm running 18's which should (by all accounts) fit over a set of Brembo's - I'll trial fit one of my wheels to a friends sti 8 before any purchase.
Any suggestions?

Touchy, touchy - There is a search facility you know and this has been covered loads of times.
Most people leave the rear brakes alone, other than upgrading the pads and fitting braided hoses.
Front options include
Godspeed (uses your calipers with a 335mm disk)
AP
Brembo
StopTech
Depends what you want to use the car for and what you can afford.

I've done a search, but wanted to consolidate some opinions. I've briefly looked at a Godspeed front conversion (may be the way to go), but it's quite expensive. Maybe Brembo's, but some say that track use can cause disk problems - due to the large caliper size/reduced cooling.
I'd like to change front and rear to maintain the balance. Unless the advise is to the contrary.
NS04, Use will be mainly fast road, although I may do a few track days etc. It's not an everyday car, but I still want good road maners - no lengthy brake warm-ups for me! Budget, well, it all depends on when I make the change, I suppose, £500(ish), but I could stretch to maybe £800 if I wait a while. I really want to do a once only brake upgrade - it's not like a power upgrade where you can add a bit at a time. At the moment the car is running just a decat a 18 inch rims, so plenty of space behind the rims and not massive power.

Remember that a classic is about 200kgs lighter than a newage so the brakes don't have to work as hard.
I run AP6 pots on mine (£1k secondhand) and they are fine for road use and are a lot better in feel than the standard 4 pots, which helps as mine doesn't have abs. On the rear I've just upgraded the pads and it feels quite balanced when braking hard.
Can't comment on the others as I've never tried them.

The Godspeed conversion is appealing, but I can buy a set of second hand Brembo's for £500ish and then sell my 4 pots for £250 or maybe more, that makes the Brembo's a better bet. Then there's the rears, ideally, I'd like a matched set. So, Brembo's on the rear - I've got 2 pot rears - but will the Brembo's fit on my 180 diff. or do I need something else?????????

Can't see any reason why you couldn't fit Brembo's on the rear. The Newage STI also uses a R180 diff.
