Default cost effective brake upgrade needed

hi..currently have the subaru two pot front brakes on my my00 jdm wagon, and am thinking of uprating these to something a lot better, fast road use is my main requirment,so what would be best, just find a set of used 4 pots with standard discs? or is there anything out there thats better value for money that i should consider
thanks

i would go for a set of used 4 pots if ur car is slightly tuned upto say 260 bhp
i would use oe brake pads and rotors with dot 5 break fluid with braided lines . graham goodes ebay shop do the discs and pads for the 4 pots oe for the price £90.00 plus £10.00 carriage. dealers charge £200 plus !!!!! if u up grade from the 2 pots to say tarox discs and pads all round (for the 2 pots)u will pay say £550 and will still be breaking on the 2pots instead of 4pots ! All in all the 4 pot conversion should save u about £150 .

In my opinion you should keep an eye out on adds on scoobynet and on ebay for Brembo 4 pots, Ijust recently picked up some nice ones complete with discs and pads for £375.00 and these are excellent upgrade for your two pots. I was also told that you should not use dot5.1 brake fluid as it has a high moisture content but use dot 4 or racing fluid instead along with braided hoses.
I hope this is of help to you

think your getting confused with dot5 silicone based fluid...........

nothing wrong with a good quality dot5.1 synthetic fluid, no difference in moisture absorbtion (generally speaking) over any dot4 or race based fluid...........

Shouldn't an MY00 have 4 pot subaru front brakes anyway, mine did.

Yes, I think there is some confusion LOL

DOT 4 usually gives better pedal feel than dot 5.

DOT 5.1 (glycol) is basically high performance DOT 4 (also called "super dot4" or Dot 4 racing etc...its more of a brand gimmick to differntiate from normal DOT 4 and silicone DOT 5), with higher wet/dry boiling points

DOT 5 (silicone) sacrifices feel for better and higher wet and dry boiling points.

So only need to use the latter two if you have problems cooking dot4 fluid (very rare...unless on race use). Better to go cheaper and change it more often as both dot4/super4/dot 4 racing/dot 4 r/Dot 4 plus/dot5.1 are all hydroscopic and degrade anyway. So left long enough will only be as good as a DOT 3 fluid (or worse)!

Can you all detail the Brembo conversion?
Ie What year of car, and are they a bolt-on?
I want to keep my 16's on too. Are you sure such a caliper will fit inside a subaru Sti 16''?
Graham.

uk spec my00 models did indeed come with 4 pots as standard...unfortunatly jap spec cars like mine came with the crappy 2 pot front brakes, and the cars are supposed to be more powerfull than the uk versions too...... bad idea really
anyone have anything to say about these brakes on ebay...a bit more than i wanted to spend, but look very good value for mony

I wouldn't buy a set of brakes from someone who i'd not had some feedback from, and a name that i'd never heard of.... and you can only hope that the pads are the same shape as something thats already made in decent material..... it's your choice....

those calipers are from the states , they are the same as wilwood ones and dont have dust seals , so they will end up with sticking pistons , the company on ebay selling them used to be TAS before they went bust
