Question Brake pad shims

I'm changing the OE Prodrive supplied pads in Alcon/prodrive calipers to DS2500's and noticed that the new Ferodo pads don't come with any pad shims.
The OE pad shims are fixed to the back of the pad and can't be re-used so how important is it to have the shims fitted between the back of the pad and the caliper piston?
Can I get away with not fitting them?

AFAIK the brakes will squeal like mad without shims. They did on my old Civic anyway.

Once the shims were fitted, problem solved.

So I would say do not fit without.

I have EBC pads. I am sure it says remove shims before fitting. Mine don't squeel.

EBC pads come with stick on shims.

Re-use the old shims if they fit?

Yes, I had'nt noticed the old shims stuck to the back of the old Prodrive pads, so I've managed to peel the old shims off and hopefully they will stick on the back of the new Ferodo's.
