I run 205 55 16 Vredstein. The main reason for the change was to increase geared speed to 165 mph. I was expecting the performance to be poor but I have been pleasantly surprised. Road holding is good dry or wet, in part I am sure due to the very capable tyres. Performance may be a smidgens behind the NCT 5 205 50 16 that I previously ran.
I also have a set of Falken Winter tyres for sale with O/E Subaru rims, in good condition, silver, 5 double spoke type. Tyres are two at 8mm and two at 7mm. 205 55 16. Asking £150 plus delivery (about £25). Photographs available. I am based Darlington. If you are interested : harveysmith1@btopenworld.com

Hi wadsy69.
I just refitted my winter tyres today to my Classis WRX Wagon. They are Michelin DRICE 205/55/16's, same size as you are thinking about.
They are slightly over size and they do just brush the rear arches under big compressions, but only when there are passengers in the back. With no passengers in the back they don't touch. Also at the front if the steering is on lock and I exit a steep slope onto the flat quickly, they just brush the arches. It's worth noting though that my car does not have standard front/rear springs, it's lowered by about 1cm.
I've done no damage to tyres or wheel arches, so I reckon that if your car is standard then you might have no problems at all. If I was having real problems then I'd consider getting the arches rolled slightly.
HTH.
