Question Load rating on tyres...important or not?

I read a thread earlier where Goodyear Eagle F1's appear to split on the inner side wall when fitted to a classic Impreza. The thread mentioned that the load ratingon them was 83 and the Scooby needed to be 87 or above for 215/40/17's.

After a bit of digging, Toyo T1S's are 83 and many use them with no problems - so is this a specific problem to the Eagle F1 or does the load rating matter?

I'm looking at a set of Yoko's - see my other thread - which are rated at 83.. anyone think this may be a problem?

Cheers.

The load index is the weight a tyre is designed to take i.e. a L/I of 83 is 487kg while an L/I of 87 is 545kg. If you're worried about the difference, it's only the T1-S with an L/I of 83. The T1-R has an L/I of 87 and it's a far superior tyre anyway.

I haven't read the thread about the GYEaF1's yet but more often than not a tyre splitting on the inside is normally down to either being run flat, on a car with excessive camber or incorrect tracking.

Goodyear dont seem to think its load related.
