Obviously the best place to get some will be from Alyn at ASP, but are there any alternative disc manufacturers to AP that will fit the same bells and 4 pot caliper, (cp5000?) at a reduced price, or is this a false economy?

Not having much luck with AP discs as my second set in 18 months now need replacing, and that's without trackdays. Sigh.

Two sets in 18 months??!!

Just out of interest what sort of mileage are you getting from the AP discs?

The first set I inherited with a very slight judder on them when I got the car which got progressivley worse to the point it was unbearable. I got the discs skimmed but it came back again after a few weeks. So I just replaced them.

The second set have performed really well and have been on for 18 months without any trouble, until I washed the car and put it away wet for about 4 days or so. The discs seemed to have developed a rough spot where the pads rusted to the disc, and it seems that I am back to square one, with a slight vibration which I assume will get worse. So it appears I now need some more

Both sets have done about 12k of genuine light use, I am very careful always warming them up and cooling them back down, bedded them in right, and never ever stand with my foot on the brake.

Whats going on? I am a bit miffed.

DAZ you could try an aggressive "re-bedding" of the pads which may (or may not) help.................

sounds to me like it is pad deposits tbh. As Alyn suggests, you need the aggressive bedding in procedure (much like i have to use with my StopTech kit). That is worth reading about, you wont believe how agressive that has to be to work correctly. I have the StopTech kit, and every week i still have to remove pad deposits as you cant brake hard all the time. And like you, i never sit with my foot on the brake after using them hard.

 

Suppose it cant hurt to give it a try. The mrs uses the car day to day, so it doesn't really get any aggressive braking.

I am aware of the fact that you need to keep the discs blue/grey as I have read the stoptech info, but when I try to rebed them, the judder seems to get worse as they get hotter.

When they are cold they seem fine with no judder. Seems strange that they have led a very easy life yet are still juddering. Or maybe that is the problem, too easy a life?

I will try it and let them cool. Any thoughts on getting them skimmed? Did this before on my last set, but the judder came back worse.

have you checked the wheel bearings? They could also lead to uneven wear of discs if they have any play. Also what pads you using? Are they rated hot enough for your use?

 

I am using fairly new DS2500's, there doesn't seem to be any play in the bearings either.
