Default New Sti alloys on WRX

I've just got some new 17'' 03 Sti alloys for my 01 JDM WRX. It currently wears the 16'' alloys it came with. The new tyres have a larger outside diameter and what I want to know is whether this will change the gearing at all, ie slower acceleration, higher top speed etc and if the speedo will now under read.

Also will the ride height be different and affect the handling. The 16's wore 205/50 R16 and the 17's 225/45 R17.

Also what pressures do you reckon?

Lots of questions, I know, but any help would be really useful.

Hi There
Tyre will be slightly taller overall but nothing to worry about too much.
Will also feel about the same but less sharp on turn in as the 16".
Tyre pressures around 32 psi should be okay, but never let them go below 30 psi.

There's a tyre size comparator here. Put in your original size on the top line, then the new size on the next and then hit compute sizes - it will show you the difference.

In this case you'd be way better using 225/40/17s, but 225/45/17s will be OK. Don't let the difference creep over 5%.

I've got these on my classic (with a few issues). I've found the speedo is now truer, according to GPS readout, so be carefull near cameras.

Thanks fellas. Just a thought but my spare is a space saver, I guess 16''. If I need to use it, will it screw up the diff if the opposite tyre is a 17''
