Default E-BAY & BUYING SECOND HAND BRAKES! DON'T

Just a warning to any ony contemplating buying second hand.......brakes!!! DON'T. Last month I picked up a well priced pair of brembo's to fit on to a classic, the wheels are the first problem, any wheel you have at the moment wont fit due to offset's the second problem is possibly needing the wheel arches rolled out or messing about with spacers and studs....luckely I was O.K with this.

The brakes looked in amazing condition....firstly the threads were cross threaded studs...and one of the pistons was not working properly, all this was found out after trying to fit them. After sorting all this out...finally. Took it for a test drive...all ok...a week later took it out for a blast came to a r-about at 70!....foot went to the floor!!!!! grabbed the hand brake and went OVER the r-about....SIDEWAYS....the big man up there must like me. I found out a seal had failed on the braided hoses.

After looking at the e-bayer from hemsworth! he does this as a business, it looks like he buys brakes from from a crash damaged breakers and resprays and puts new stickers on it and different disks to make it look good.

At the end of the day its your life!!!!!!!!!

I'm now looking at geeting brand new AP's and getting it fitted by a specialist!

why didnt you try some small brakes on a private road before giving your brakes stick on a public roundabout?

I would have thought that half of your trouble was not knowing what would or wouldn't fit, most on here could tell you if certain calipers will fit or not..... maybe you should have asked first.....

I bought a second hand pair of Brembo's and disc's with new DS2500 pads then had them rebuilt and re-painted at Godspeed all for under £700 and am very pleased with them.

But as RON has pointed out it's a good idea to do some research first.

I bought a set of godspeed 335 brakes including modified 4 pots from someone on here. Told they were absolutely fine but it took 2 or 3 trips to Godspeed to get them right.

Fair play to Ian he worked his magic and they are spot on now - cost me the same as buying them brand new sadly.
