ABS warning light 96 sti
Can anyone tell me if my 96jdm sti has an abs warning light. had to anchor the breaks on the way home from work this evening to avoid a car sideways in the road and the car just seemed to lock up, any ideas on how i can check the abs is working? cheers

Does it have DCCD? DCCD and ABS didnt mix on Classics; from what I recall ABS was an option on STIs (models without DCCD...) but Im not certain.

Turn on the ignition...if there's ABS the light on the dash saying "ABS" will turn on for 3 or 4 seconds then turn off again
btw when the ABS light is on = ABS off - i.e faulty (light still works even with the fuses are pulled out).
If there is no ABS light, pop your bonnet, look under your air cleaner If you have ABS there will be a square metal block with 4 or 5 brake lines comming from it. If that is missing then you don't have ABS. If you do have it, then you do have ABS and the bulb on your dash has blown or been disconnected for some odd reason (and strictly saying your car should fail the mot - as a warning light MUST come on briefly when the ignition is turned on ).

My brother has a 96STI and it has no ABS as the intercooler water spray is where the abs pump normally goes.
If you have a water bottle next to the air filter box then you dont have abs.
The abs is is crap on classic impreza anyway.
