Question Pads on MY03 STi, Dealer fit or Rapid fit

My front pads are due for replacement and dealer has quoted £240 all in, is this a fair price or can I get them fitted by any garage. Should I have the dealer replace them for peace of mind because specialist knowledge involved or take the £90 all in Rapid Fit quote (non Subaru parts) ?

All depends on what pads your being quoted on, 90 quid sounds a bit too cheap for pads and fitting.

Once you've chosen your pads I wouldn't worry about where to have them fitted, fitting pads does NOT require specialist knowledge, choosing the right pads would be my only concern.

£90 is too cheap.

I have just done my own, took my time (about 2 hours) due to cleaning them as well. Cost me £170 for pads from AS Performance.

HTH.

Thanks for your advice.

Can you tell me if the stock STi pads are anything special and if there would be any noticeable difference in selecting one of the aftermarket ones - from AS performance for example ?

Just make sure whoever does it torques your wheel nuts properly and doesn't just give them a quick barp on the gun.

TSL sell a ferodo pad that is excellent same sort of price (£150 ish) but works better that the standard, i have also had the red stuff ceramic and they only work well when you have really put some heat into them and are a bit wooden in feel. cheers Paul

Depends on what pads you want to fit.
The EBC redstuff ceramics are about 85 quid for the STi, you can get Mintex 1144/1155 for around 120-130 quid.

I left my MY03 STi in for it's 50,000kms service (I service the car every 10K kilometers) about 6 weeks ago. The back brake pads needed changing and I was charged 650 Swiss francs or about 285 quid by the Subaru dealership for the pleasure. On the bill the price of the back pads were 494 Swiss Francs or 216 quid in your money.

My wallet is going to be hurting when they do the 60K kms service, and the dealer has already told me it will!!!

Switzerland is so expensive for everything! I could have flown over, supplied and fitted for less then that!

Everyone over there must have a high income?

In and around Geneva where you have the International Organizations and the luxury watchmakers the wages are good but the prices all around the area are high. A chinese restaurant in most of the world is considered a place to go when you have a cash-flow problem, in Geneva they are some of the most expensive places to eat!!!

I'm thinking of flying you over for my 60K kms service

Subaru quoted me £240 + VAT for front pads. Got a set of EBC Redstuffs at £95 and Local garage charged £10 to fit. Wheels correctly torqued too
