Question Brake Pad Life?

Can anybody comment on the typical mileage out of a set of std WRX brake pads.

Mine have done 13k and I really would like to upgrade the pad to Pagids, but need to sell to the Misses that they are about due soon anyway. She doesn't believe that I could only get 23-15k out of a set.

BTW enthusiastic driver, but no trackdays

Replaced my front pads last weekend after doing 19k miles, MY03.

I do hope they are still bedding in as they dont feel as good as my old knackered pads.

Well, this is ABSOLUTELY true!!

I have now covered 58,000miles on the original pads - and I should know, I bought the car new, 5 years ago.

Not sure how many more 1,000's I will get out of them, but they are not squealing at all yet?

I should say that 60-65,000 miles is about right .... given a driver who knows how to drive

There is no such thing as x-miles before replacement. You use the brakes, they wear; you don't, they don't. Go for a hard track day - say Donington - and you will probably need a new set of pads to get home. But if you're down to 3mm of pad it's time to think about new. (Don't forget that discs wear, too )

And if you see Pete "gold wheels" Lewis coming, for Gawd's sake get out of his way - he probably hasn't seen you and he ain't stoppin' anyway. Sheeeeet!!!

Richard.
