I'm looking to get some new tires and ive narrowed it down to Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD-3 £486 a set or Toyo Proxes T1-R £419 a set

Has anyone any views on which is best or should I go for a different tire etc?

Just fitted a set of F1s today £332. Only driven the car home but the steering feel is better and not lighter than when you normally fit new rubber.The car was fitted with P Zero Rosso before the change. Slightly harder ride but thats not a bad thing.I got quoted £322 for the T1R so opted for the F1s

www.mytyres.co.uk are pretty cheap, the T1R's work out at £70.70 each for the classic 16in wheel, including vat and delivery!

I've just gone from fairly new gsd3's to new toyos due to a wheel swap... i preferred the goodyears, the toyos are a bit 'squishy'......maybe just a bit new though.. 17's mind... i had toyos in 16 and they were fine....

i know it depends on driving style etc, but how long should i expect a set of f1,s to last?

If you drive the car anyway hard and I don't mean all the time, probably just like most people then not very long I'm afraid.

I had a set and they were gone in around 10K (swapped from to back etc).

Whatever you do though, don't scrimp on tyres - get the best you can afford.

Best tyres i've ever had they stick like sh*t to a blanket and very good in the wet. They wear very quickly but highly recommended.

Had the Goodyears on, but now have the T1-R's. Go for the Eagles mate - far better.

Jasoon : Your tyre prices are OTT as you realise.
I use both F1 GSD3 and T1R. Both good tryes but the Goodyear has less inclination for aquaplane in deepish standing water.

Toyo's are good when new, but once worn down to 4-5mm left, I don't think they inspire confidence in the wet, and they don't seem to be able to cope with standing water as well as the F1's.

The Goodyear F1's are good all the time, go with those.

On a greasy road the Toyo's are MUCH better than the GSD-3's. On a dry road the GSD-3's seem to have the edge. Yet to try in the wet although seem fine on wet motorway with standing water.

You pays your money and makes your choice.

Just had 4 new F1's fitted at Micheldever Tyres for £420 including fitting, valves, hidden balancing and front toe/camber alignment.

...and they used a proper torque wrench to tighten the nuts.

Very highly recommended.

I am getting T1R's fitted today.
They are replacing the naff Avons that were on the car when I bought it a few months ago.

I selected them simply because of having Toyos on my old MR2, which gave me fantastic grip (T1S).

I don't think there is much difference between the 2 types.

I personally found the Toyo T1-S's were cr@p in the wet or on damp roads and never inspired confidence. In the dry they were just as good as the Goodyears. I've found the GSD-3's aren't as good as the older GSD-2 tyres and are much closer to the Toyo's for damp conditions.

Only downside with the Michelin's is their expense. Costco usually do some deals on them, but I can't remember if I've seen the PS2's there.

Since a lot of my driving is boring motorway stuff I'm prepared to deal with the less grippy tyres if I can get some decent life out a set.
