Default Hard Wearing Tyres

Hi guys..

Just bought myself an early Xmas present... these

They are Kosei D Racer 17 x 7 (is that all you need to know?) and are being fitted to an STi2 (1996).

I want to put tyres on that wont wear out quickly. I currently have Mitchellin's and wore out the front tyres in around 6 months and had to swap front to back eek!

So, recommendations if you will. I intend to have them fitted at ProTyre and would like to make sure I get a decent set.

You should be rotating the tyres front-back anyway. I do it at every service interval to keep the wear rates even.

Do you want performance?

For wear rate alone I'd avoid Goodyear Eagles. I got 25K out of my original Pirelli P-Zero's and roughly 15K out of my Toyo Proxes.

Thanks for info on tyre rotation... I will remember that and get Triton to sort that at each service.

Perfomance? Not since being stopped for speeding Of course, I want grip and wear to be hand in hand I guess... I don't do more than 8k a year so my current tyres have worn out quite rapidly haven't they. So the Pirelli p-Zero's are good then?

Wink

Really good grip, and really slow wear tend to be mutually exclusive.

I'd go for Pirellis, or my current favourites, Toyo Proxes T1R's, and rotate them every 6 months.

Yep, really good grip usually comes from soft compound tyres which tend to wear pretty quickly unfortunately.

8K ain't a lot, but if you drive the car likes it's stolen it'll amount to my 25K of motorway mile munching.

Also, tyre choice will depend on budget. Pirelli's will last, but they're pretty expensive compared to Toyos. Having said that you may already be used to high tyre prices with those Michelin's

IIRC 205/45/17 or 215/40/17 on a classic.

First has limited choice. Pirelli only ones that spring to mind.

SG,
Go for 215/40 17's, the 205's don't ride as well, or at least thats what I've found!!
