Default Upgraded to 4 pots and dissapointed!

As the title says
I've just today changed the standard 2 pot calipers on my 94STi to 4 pot subaru calipers from a breakers, along with grooved discs.
Went for a test drive tonight and to be honest cant see much difference!

The calipers and discs are both second hand but have plenty life left on them,
will they need time to bed in to really notice a difference or is something wrong?

depends of the quality of the pads but you should still see some form of improvement...............

Did you check that all the pistons are free before you installed them, if using new pads they will take time to bed in, especially if they are performance pads, the pads will have to wear to the profile of the disc.
I have pagid rs 421 supplied by alyn and they are great.

Yeah the Pistons are fine,
I think it's just a case of the pads needing to wear to the discs to be honest

Try stopping twice from 100+ in a short space of time. 4 pots do, 2 pots don't

James,
Please don't take this as an insult, thats not how it's meant, but you did put the calipers on the right side of the car didn't you, ie, bleed nipple at the top!!!!

What sort of changes were you expecting? If you want the thing to stop dead just by touching the pedal, then the right pads will do that, regardless of anything else (but they won't do it very often).

What the 4-pots will give you, providing everything else is matched to them, is better braking from higher speeds, more consistently and more often. Much as Graham says.

I also don't believe Goodridge (braided) hoses do much, but you have to bleed the brakes to fit them, and fresh fluid can make a world of difference

Richard.

LOL,
I had them fitted at a garage mate, and yes they are on correct.
I have braided hoses fitted as well

I am getting used to them now and do like them, I think the pads need to bed in thats all

If you would like to improve your stopping power then:
- upgrade your brake servo (or whatever it is called), which helps the pedal push. (Black disc shape stuff on the right hand side (looking from front) on the "firewall" of the engine bay). You just put the MY03-04 STI servo on there and you will think that it is a different car...

- Plus, you can purchase that servo holder deal (e.g. from MRT Rally ), which keeps the servo pump on place, hence less flex...

All in all, the poor braking of GC8 Imprezas come from these 2 things (undersized servo and flex)... That fixes is a whole lot for sort of cheap money... Than you can upgrade to AP Racing or something 6-8 pots etc...

Like you say more than likely, pad bed in. Was each pad marked in some way so it was fitted against the same disc face it used to fit against?

You should see a massive improvement over the 2 pots, definately check pads, discs, system bled through & pistons aren't ceased.......

And remind yourself it was money well spent
